ABOUT - KEV TERRY
"I started learning drums and guitar at the age of 15, I wrote my first song before I was 16, and I've never looked back since."
- Kev Terry -
I grew up in a family of musicians with my Mother being a singer and my Father a multi instrumentalist and singer/songwriter. It is hard not to follow the same path when there are full band rehearsals happening in your lounge!
My parents were quite well known in the 60's playing the circuit in a band called the Webb, supporting all sorts of names like The Kinks, The Who, Rod Stewart and too many more to mention. I followed in my fathers footsteps whilst idolizing Dave Grohl and over the years I have managed to become a multi instrumentalist myself, although behind the kit is always where I feel most at home.
Along my journey I have played in several bands and I have been fortunate enough to have shared the stage with some extremely talented musicians who have inspired me and made me the muso that I am today.
Some of my musical history consists of bands like:
"Oblivion" - a rock covers house band for Lords 2 nightclub.
"Byrn" - rock originals.
"Mindcage" - Grunge originals and winners of Sussex battle of the bands 1995.
"Drone" - punk grunge originals, sponsored by Levi's with interest from Brendan O Brian (one of Soundgarden's producers) and totally thrashed out everywhere on the toilet circuit.
"Stonewall Jackson" - funk rock fusion originals, in house band for The Druids Head, released an E.P called Valley of the Kings and struck a deal with HMV, had some air play with one of my own songs from it called "Polythene Superdream" which was also released on the 1998 compilation album of Brighton bands called "Hangin in the Sun", gigged anywhere and everywhere as much as possible and won Sussex battle of the bands 2000.
"Mama Joseph" - Alternative rock originals and covers (a follow on from Stonewall Jackson after a forced name change due to legal reasons), supported the 70's prog rock band "Focus" on the English leg of their European tour during early 2000, recorded on a boat in Brighton marina with Tony Clarke (producer of the Moody Blues, Elvis, Aretha Franklin etc) probably best known for his work on nights in white satin. Mama Joseph also had air play with songs from our album "Bleed", various write-ups including Metal Hammers scorching album review likening us to the Wildhearts, supported "Reef" during their 2000 tour and toured across England.
"Leap of Faith" - rock originals,
"My deaf Audio" - alternative rock in which I was just the frontman lead vocalist.
"Foe Fighters" - Foo Fighters tribute act, where I took on the role of Taylor Hawkins and played a host of pubs, clubs and festivals up and down the country to a solid fan base with lots of drinking and dancing on tables and bars!
Out of the ashes of Foe Fighters formed “Hardcore Troubadour” - originals Americana/Indie rock band in which I wrote drums, bass, lead guitar, keys and harmonies for. I recorded a 12 track album with frontman/rhythm guitarist Paul Fielder and then found 2 other musicians to take the project out live playing pubs, clubs and festivals and some live radio. The guitarist that was brought in for this project was the now Deadbeat Angels guitarist Robbie Cullen.

During my music career I have played with and met a fair few awesome musicians along the way, like Steve Howe (Yes), Stevie Ferrone (my fathers original drummer who went on to play for The Average White band, Duran Duran, Night of the guitars and Eric Clapton), Arthur Brown, Big Country, Cradle of filth, Hugh Cornwell, Jesus Jones, Peter Green, Jeff Beck, Gary Moore and Richard Lewis (Skunk Anansie bassist). I also had opportunities to join the Ordinary boys and Bad manners new band but turned these kind offers down due to other projects that coincided at the time.
I am also available as a session drummer helping people record songs and albums, depping for the odd cover/party band and generally filling in where needed. I have also written and recorded 2 solo albums and an E.P to date and a 3rd album is currently in the making with several songs already laid down.
Deadbeat Angels is my most current project that I formed with guitarist Robbie Cullen and as covers bands go, this one rocks ass, so if you like a good variety of rock tunes with female fronted vocals then don’t miss us on the circuit people!
